Wierd problem with brand new computer

[ Edited ]

I bought a brand new Pavilion HPE H8-1214 with windows 7(64-bit) about a week ago. Pretty much since day one I have been experiencing two wierd problems. The first is that I have the theme set to windows Aero. I will occasionally come back to the computer to find it changed to Windows 7 basic with a message saying that it has been changed due to a lack of memory. I don't understand how this can be happening when the computer is not being used. The second problem also occurs when the computer is sitting idle. I will come back to use the computer after it has been sitting and find the computer on a blue HP screen that says press escape for startup menu. I will press escape and then I get another screen with the system info that also says press escape for startup menu on the bottom. Once I get to this menu the computer seems to freeze and I have to force a shut down and restart it. This is happeneing on a regular basis and I cannot figure out why this would be happening on a brand new computer.

Re: Wierd problem with brand new computer

sounds like a boot issue - the Blue screen you see is the BIOS screen. There are a bunch of on board diagnostics you can run through HP Suppor Assistant (HPSA). Run those to make sure there are no Hardware issues.

If it was stuck on the BIOS screen I'd recommend unplugging any external devices (printers, scanners, your iPhone, etc.) and then turn off auto restart on system error.

1. Click Start, right click computer, select properties

2. On the left side of the window that pops up select Advanced

3. Near the bottom under Startup and Recovery click settings

4. Uncheck Automatiallcy Restart and click ok.

That way if the system fails is won't restart, and you'll see an error message that will tell you a lot more about what is going on.

also more info about what you have plugged in, and what you have installed will help us figure out what is going on.

good luck

Re: Wierd problem with brand new computer

disable hibernation, disable unwanted startups in msconfig.  Perform OS restore.  After that it's warranty.
