checkered screen...help...cant get past compaq logo

Hi...id appreciate any help i can get. I noticed today that my computer screen had red checkered like pattern all over it. I decided to go ahead and open my computer...check connections and dust it out. Upon trying to boot it back up...it wouldnt. I got the green flashing light on the back by the power cord. So i disconnected the main power supply from the motherboard...disconnected drivers..etc and got the surge thing to stop looping. ( sorry im still a novice) . So i got it to turn back on...but now i cant get past the compaq logo screen and its still checkered on the monitor. Keyboard and mouse are non working. Any help please!!@

Amd athlon x2 4450e dual-core processor
Nvidia geforce 6150 se graphics
3 gb memory
250 gb hard drive
Windows vista

So i took a suggestion to remove the lithum battery...now my screen is static and shakey and still cant get past compaq logo screen. Im not touching anything else til i hear a reply back here...ugghhh

It sounds like video failure.Unfortunately your video is a chip soldered on the motherboard.You should also have a PCI-E slot to install a real video card, but I am not sure that would fix the issue.Installing a PCI-E video card usually disbles the onboard video chip so it 'might'.

Thank you. I was able to get it to boot up properly. So now im just dealing with the checkered screen. Im waiting on a monitor and hoping its just my monitor or connection piece (fingers crossed)...if not then i will try to get a video card and hope it will override the video chip.
