compaq presario frozen after power outage

I have a compaq presario desktop computer. After a power outage yesterday I noticed that the green light above the power switch (which is lite when the computer is on) is flashing. I press the power button and the computer doesn't respond. Holding the button down for awhile didn't work either. Unplugging  the computer doesn't work either. When I plug it back in the falshing light continues but the computer doesn't turn on. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong and how to fix it. Please advisse. Thanks

I had the same problem with an old HP desktop I still own.   You need to open the case of the desktop and unplug the power connection to the motherboard, and wait about five minutes then plug the power connection back on the motherboard, and then plug the power plug back into the back of the desktop. It should power on now.

thanks for the suggestion. I must still have a problem because when the power supply is connected to the drives and the motherboard the green power supply light blinks. When I unplug it from everything it stays on continuously.  After plugging it together after disconnecting everything it still won't power up.  Either my power supply or my motherboard is bad. Don't know which?

Try this procedure and see if you can isolate the issue. Trouble Shooting Power Supply Issues. Don’t skip any steps.

I was trying to find that link last night to post when I first replied as I used those same instructions about six months back when my HP desktop had the same issue.
