d5000z won't boot

I think I have a motherboard issue.  Looks like my MB may be fried.  My wife was vacuuming and looks like she bumped the surge suppressor plug and partially pulled it out of the socket.  The computer was down and so was a network attached external harddrive, my monitor was on.  When I turn on the PC the fans run, I get CD/DVD drive light, and computer power light.

Initially I tried the monitor (HP L1950g) cable to see if video card was working.  Unplugged video cable and turned monitor on.  said check video cable.  Plugged in cable and monitor acted just like the computer was turned off.

Not sure what else it could be but a MB issue.  Can't even get into the BIOS.  Not sure if they make the MB anymore or what MB to get so I could keep the CPU, memory, etc.  (fixed income)

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: d5000z won't boot

GeorgeC,

Are you sure the monitor is ON? Press the menu button? Does that work?

I believe in Pavlov's Law. You toss me points, and I perform better.

Thanks for the response.

Yes both monitors are on.  Pluged into seperate DVI plugs on Nvidia 9800 GT video card.  Turn monitors on with no cable plugged in, get green light, get check cable message, lights turn amber.  Plug cables in and no message, lights green, going to sleep message, then amber lights.

All cooling fans are working, including power supply.  No link or activity lights on NIC card either.

PC is a D500Z ATX, KT607AX ABA, s/n MXV83800YR.  Four years old but I'd like to keep it running.  Motherboard is an ASUS M2N78-LA, HP # VIOLA-GL8E,.

Doubt if I can get the same MB anywhere.  But not sure what MB to get so I can keep everything

Thanks again.

George

Re: d5000z won't boot

I am having similar problems on my system (also a d5000z), and it will only POST when I power cycle it three times (yes, it takes exactly three times, every time). You may want to give that a shot and see if you can boot it up when that happens. If so, we may have similar problems (the solution for which, I'd love to find out). I would expect, in my case, it's either a bad Voltage Regulator, or perhaps a capacitor on the MoBo going bad. I haven't looked at it carefully enough to identify exactly where the problem is, yet, but I know it's not the PSU, because I swapped that with another (1kW) and had the same exact problem.
