Re: e9280t problems and complaints

@bwinkjet

why don't you just return it?   You must be within the 21 day refund window.

Even if they "fix" it, which doesn't seem too likely, it seems that the working systems just have a workaround  or lucky combination of factors.   And probably the extreme performance that we bought them for, is likely being compromised in favor of stability by the workaround or other factors..

I won't go thru that hassle for anything.   I think a i7-860 in a xps8000 will be just fine, for me anyhow.

Re: e9280t problems and complaints

I received my e9280t on 10/27.  Since then I have had FIVE blue screens during normal operations.  No unusual software/hardware has been added to the system.  They generally occur during periods of heavy file I/O, but not exclusively.

I am considering a return during my 21 day period.  I have already wasted much of the purchase price in loss of billable time recovering from these system failures.

My previous Dell XPS box ran Vista for over two years 24/7 without a single blue screen.

I'm going to give it a few more days and watch the boards for any updates.  Hopefully this is a fixable BIOS issue, but I am wondering if it may be motherboard related.

Hi Matt,

I just returned mine todayHP is good about taking things back and refunding your purchase priceThe computer is a  very good bargain for all the features.  I was tempted to repurchase but your experience and HPs seeming unwillingness to agree there is a problem prompted my wife to say how can you say that it is a bargain if it does not work as it shouldIn my experience the blue screen or, just as bad, freezing up of the USB ports requiring reboot by button which causes loss of a number of personalized settings just got worse and worse, up to 3-4 times a day.

Re: e9280t problems and complaints

I would be happy to have a few freezes or blue screens of death. I ordered my e9280t the last week in October and have been sent 2 e-mails stating that due to a "component shortage" the build date of my computer has been revised. As of now, my new build date is November 10th, then 5 days or more for shipping. This really *%^^@# me off. Don't continue to take orders for a product you CAN NOT build. I hate dealing with cutomer service too. "here is a $50 coupon to use for other items we may or may not have in stock. Maybe it is a blessing though, maybe they have fixed the freezing problem and are awaiting new boards and my system will be the first one with the new board and no problems. HOOOOOORRRAAAAAYYYYY for the constant delays and bad customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chrisis5150:  Sorry to hear about your particular issues with HP, but I agree if it's a mobo update/upgrade they're waiting on it might be good news.  I'm still holding off 'til Xmas to make up my mind whether to go with the e9280t or not, basing my decision on input like yours.  Keeping my fingers crossed for everybody ordering this series.

Yes, I am hoping the same.  However while researching the mobo issue I found that very few if any vendors have this mobo in stock.  Maybe HP just ran

out and is waiting for more from it's supplier.  If they do change boards I will reorder one as it is otherwise a great machine.

Re: e9280t problems and complaints

I too ordered an e9280t on 10/22. Got notification of an 11/10 ship date changed from orig 10/30 (only 7 business days later - not too bad). I went into configure again and noticed the nVidia GTX 260 is no longer a GPU option. May be that is the backordered part.

Re: e9280t problems and complaints

I ordered the e9280t through Costco partly because of their liberal 90 day return policy.  I also noticed that they dropped the GTX 260 (which I selected).  After reading this thread, I wondered why.  Could the GTX 260 be a contributing factor?

I was also surprised to learn after I ordered it that it has 2 eSATA ports and a total of 12 USB 2.0 ports.  I expect to use all of these ports so I hope they get the bugs out.   Getting details on what USB ports are being used internally and what connectors might be available on the motherboard to bring out to a USB bracket has been difficult.  I guess I'll have to wait until it gets here.

Only 7 of those 12 USB ports are on the outside, the others are internal. Still, 7 is one more than I expected. (Four rear, three front) and the 2 eSATA ports were pleasant surprises as well.

And whatever the issue is that is causing problems for some users, my unit has been running for a week now and that includes a number of cold starts and waking from sleep, which is supposed to trigger the problems, and it has run flawlessly.

Hi Randall,

Do me a favor if and when you have time please.  Check the administrators log of events (shows warnings, conflicts, critical issues) and tell me how many you have on average in a days time.  I was logging 100 to 150 a day.  (When using XP on an older machine there was rarely anything reported)  I ask because I wonder if this was a reflection of instability in the machines that had trouble.  Thanks
