elite m9520f problems

[ Edited ]

It started when windows has been slow to boot up recently. Tonight I went away for a couple hours and came back to find my computer frozen. So I restart the computer and it gets to the bios screen and won't do anything. Keyboard won't respond or anything.

So I replace the bios battery and when I press the key for settings or boot menu it just says loading boot menu.....

it will sit there for hours.

How can I fix this? Is this computer toast?

thank you

michael

See if the below procedure can help narrow down the issue.

Re: elite m9520f problems

I don't think it is the power supply. The computer powers up. Just I can't get past the bios screen and when I try to see if it is recognizing the hard drive all i get is "loading..please wait" and it won't go any further. If it isn't the power supply what else could it be? The video must be ok since I see a screen.

Re: elite m9520f problems

I not saying it's the PSU at this time but the procedure may be narrow down the issue.  Try clearing the CMOS.

Re: elite m9520f problems

tried resetting the cmos and same problem. Noticed when I removed the hard drive that the vent behind the hard drive was singed black. What would that usually mean? The hard drive looks ok to me so maybe it was like that from when they painted the case?

Re: elite m9520f problems

Do you get the same problem with the hard drive disconnected?  (You can't get into the bios?)

Re: elite m9520f problems

I unplugged the hard drive and it booted up the point where it said no hard drive.

What does this mean? Shouldn't it boot up and say invalid disk even if the hard drive is bad?

So with the HD plugged in your PC hangs and without the HD plugged in you can boot into the bios? Is this correct? If yes, then it's a good bet that your HD is bad.

Re: elite m9520f problems

Yes that is correct. I know if I have to buy a new hard drive, I am buying a western digital not another seagate. But I would like to have it work until at least monday when I can buy a new hard drive plus allow me to backup my files.
