Re: hp p6310f

Most AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics cards have a minimum system power supply requirement of 350 - 400 watts. You may need a more powerful PSU for the HD 5450. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are great choices that fit in your system. Please see Big_Dave's Guide for Selecting a Discrete Video Card for more information.

Re: hp p6310f

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that, one thing that still bothers me is the version of the PCI-E on the MB, I read somewhere on that if the PCI-E is a v1 it will no support a PIC-E  V. 2.1 which is the version that th  HD 5450 has. Any thoughs on that?

Re: hp p6310f

Based on running CPU-z on my HP p6320y which has the same Violet6 motherboard as your p6310f, I would say the PCIe x16 slot is version 2.0

Description   VGA Controller Location   bus 2 (0x02), device 0 (0x00), function 0 (0x00) Common header  Vendor ID  0x10DE  Model ID  0x0CA3  Revision ID  0xA2  PI   0x00  SubClass  0x00  BaseClass  0x03  Cache Line  0x10  Latency   0x00  Header   0x80 PCI header  Address 0 (memory) 0xFD000000  Address 1 (memory) 0xE0000000  Address 3 (memory) 0xDE000000  Address 5 (port) 0x0000EC00  Subvendor ID  0x10DE  Subsystem ID  0x069D  Int. Line  0x11  Int. Pin  0x01 PCI capability  Caps class  Power Management  Caps offset  0x60  Caps version  1.2 PCI capability  Caps class  Message Signalled Interrupts  Caps offset  0x68 PCI capability  Caps class  PCI Express  Caps offset  0x78  Device type  PCI-E Endpoint Device  Port   0  Version   2.0  Link width  16x (max 16x)

In running a GT240 on my system and have no issues.
