When I turned on my computer the message "invalid or damaged bootable partition" appeared before I could sign in. When I pressed Esc nothing happened. I am unable to access anything. What can I do? This computer has never been connected to the internet and HP Assistant did its check several days ago & all was fine. This computer has not used since then. No new hardward was added.

my compaq sr1550nx 8 or 9 yrs old indicated the hd had some bad sectors. i tried to restart and only get a blank (not blue) screen. if i try safe mode a bonch of lines with alpha numeric info comes up and just hangs at the samew place. Can i just replace the hd and reload the drivers?
