My HP Pavillion a 1250n will not boot. It gets to alll the typical trouble screens (safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc) and none will work.
I have recevied two error codes in fddling with is "unmountable_boot_volume" and the Stop Code "0X000000ED"
I do not seem to have any bootable type disks that came with the PC. It does not seem that anything came with it other than a virus program. I have called in a service but they are days away, and I it is where all my work is stored. Any help? I have tried the system restore, but it asks questions or wants decisions that I do not understand, and I do not want to loose any of the data that was not sucessfully backed up. I appreciate any ideas to help.

Do you know what happened to cause this issue? Did you install an update or new hardware? Did it just one day stop working?
This document on the Stop Error you have may also help.
Let us know how it goes.

This problem just started over Monday morning, no changes to system. When I got to work the computer was "clicking" loudly. I tried the restore option a few times (previously and after your message). It provided no releif. I used CHKDSK, after fooling it to start with a Windows Install disk. It states that the disk was without error. However, the CHKDSK/r is taking a very long time to complete. I willl update when it is completed. Thanks for the suggestions. I had tried CHKDSK/P earlier in the day and I could not get it to understand the command. KOS

THANKS, after using a Eindows XP disk to start windows to a revicery panel I was able to use the CHKDSK/r (i needed to use two lines as the directions inidcated was a possibility). It found "one or more errors" and it took a few hours. It seems to be back operational and ALL of my files seem to be available. I really appreciate this, as my work was terribly compromised.
