This link provides a method for downloading the Win 8.1 ISO file for installation from either DVD or a USB stick.
Have not verified but will test tommorow.
Successful test performed. Instructions per link have been verified.
One point of interest: the Win 8 product key has to be either: an upgrade or retail key. An OEM key will not be accepted. Tried a Win 8 OEM key, it failed. Then tried an upgrade key purchased for an H8 1380t system last year when MS was offering Win 8 to Win 7 users at $ 40.00. This key was accepted.
The file downloaded and was verified. I now have the Win 8.1 ISO on system and have burned to DVD.
One additional caveat. Tested install media (DVD), no problem booting. However, for some reason the key successfully used to validate the Microsoft download of Win 8.1 fails to validate the installer setup. The workaround is to use a general placeholder key (verified validation for install using this key) and then change the key to the Win 8 key you legitimately purchased after installing Win 8.1. Win 8.1 will prompt to change product key!!
Have not verified success on this last step.
