HP Support Assistant not working properly?

I have used HP Support Assistant numerous times. I have tuned up my pc and everything every time it popped up. Suddenly, I click it and it says "next tune-up: unknown", "last tune-up: never", when I have clearly done it before. So I try tuning it up. Usually, there's a spinning ball thing, but this time there's nothing and it just sits there. I thought I could uninstall it and reinstall it but when I go into uninstall a program I don't see HP Support Assistant. (I don't know if It's called something else.)
I'm not exactly a computer whiz, so I'm lost and kind of worried that something crazy might be happening, like HP Support Assistant is being affected by a virus or something. I tried opening those tips on the page of the sight but it asks me what file I want to use to open it and I have no idea what to do. Please help me out.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

As the original installation looked like it had corrupted in some way, it may not have uninstalled completely, which may explain the problem you now have when trying to run a health analysis.

Assuming this is the case, I would suggest going through the procedure of uninstalling and reinstalling HPSA ( as shown again below ) now that the uninstall routine appears to have registered correctly with Windows this time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by opening windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP Support Assistant and select Uninstall.  When this process has completed, restart the PC.

Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.

After the installation, restart the PC again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When this has been completed and Windows has fully reloaded, see if you can now run a health analysis.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

There isn't a "Hp Support Assistant" in my programs list. I have
HP Mediasmart DVD

HP Mediasmart Music
HP Mediasmart Photo
HP Mediasmart SmartMenu

HP Mediasmart Video
HP Odometer
HP Setup
HP Setup Manager
HP Support Information
HP Update
HP Vision Hardware Diagnostics

However it opens, and I can go page to page. But I can't do performance tests anymore or anything either. I checked the file location and it's called hpsf.exe

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

I tried changing the settings and they won't save. I go back and they're the way they were before, even with a different date for day of the month.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

In that case, just try downloading and installing the latest version of HPSA from the link in my previous post - if you get any error message when trying this, make a note of it and let me know.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

I guess this microsoft fixit thing deleted it for me when I tried that. Will the update still work? It just says "please wait, update in progress". Nothing else.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

It should do, but let me know if it fails - if there is any error message generated, post back with this too.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

It seems to be working normally now. But then a red flag from windows came up saying "your computer restarted for updates" or something?
