It sounds like your hard drive may be experiencing some problems. I suggest you perform the built in hard drive test on the device and let me know the result. This document covers how to perform the hard drive test.
Also, having your product number will be very helpful. This document can show you where the product number is located.

In the how to link HERE it says:
"Factory Reset: Factory Reset removes all partitions, reformats the entire hard drive, reinstalls the original operating system, and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software. This option also recreates the required Recovery partition (usually D: ) and UEFI partition (usually E: ) and reinstalls the required software."
If I open all programs, Security and Protection, Recovery Manager, Recovery Manager, one of the choices offered is "System Recovery".
There is no "Factory Reset", but "System Recovery" offers to "restore your computer to its original factory condition".
It says: "This process reinstalls the original factory shipped software. All user created files & programs installed after purchase will be lost."
Does "System Recovery" equal "Factory Reset"?
More importantly, will "System Recovery" restore the boot sector, the UEFI partition, and the MBR, if there is one, on this machine?
This machine is
HP p7 1235 desktop,
Motherboard = MSI 2AE0 (P0)
Hard Drive = Hitachi SATA Disk, 1 tb, GPT formatted
BIOS = JAS_707.ROM
HP setup utility = American Megatrends ver. 2.14.1219

The system recovery only recovers what's on the C partition. It does not equal to Factory Reset. If you want to do a Factory Reset, which is wiping out the entire HD and recovering to Factory setting you need to Create your own recovery media using Recovery Mananger or order the Recovery kit from HP.

I have the recovery disks made by this machine for this machine.
If I understand correctly:
1. Reinstalling from system recovery will reinstall the OS to C:, where it is now.
2. Reinstalling from system recovery will not reinstall the boot sector.
3. Reinstalling from the recovery disks will reinstall the boot sector.
Is that right?
Also, is there an easier way to restore the boot sector?
I appreciate your answer and think I understand , just looking for the easiest fix.
