Windows 7 Install On "HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower PC"

My HP Compaq DC5700 Microtower currently runs on a 32bit XP install, but a compatibility check shows that I can run 64bit Win 7 on the machine - which I would like to install before April 2014 when XP is no longer supported.

My problem lies at getting necessary drivers once I reload the machine with the Win7 OS.  There are no options for Win7 at the HP Compaq DC5700 drivers download page.

Any help would truly be appreciated.

Hi, Scott:

You can use the Vista 64 bit drivers, or available W7 drivers directly from the hardware manufacturer's websites such as for the Realtek HD audio.

Hi Webs4U,

You may be pleasantly surprised upon installing Win 7 on your system.

I installed Win 7 service pack 1 on an old Dell laptop (built in 2006) that was running Win XP with no errors in Device Manager. Win 7 provided all required drivers. The Dell was running a 32 bit version of XP and I used a 32 bit version on Win 7.

You would probably not be able to install any HP specific software but would still have adequate functionality. You could also try some of the 64 bit items found here that are for the 64 bit version of Vista.

Good Luck

Jaco

Jaco:

Thanks for the help and cited resource for drivers.

Hopefully the fact that you're system is a Dell and I'm using HP will prove to be irrelevant.

Have a great Holiday Season!

Paul:

Thanks for the suggestion.

Between what you and Jaco offered I should probably figure things out ;-)

You're very welcome.

If you need any help finding drivers, please post back and I will be happy to help you.

I have worked on dozens of dc5xxx/7xxx Intel models and know them pretty much inside and out.

You have a great Holiday Season too!

Re: Windows 7 Install On "HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower PC"

I googled and found this thread, I need drivers for Q965/Q963 Windows 7 64x.  I tried downloading right from intel and they did not apply, I also tried downloading the Vista 64x drivers and they too did not apply (they gave an error when installing about not being supported).  Currently the PC has some default windows driver but recently BSOD poitning to the igdkmd64 driver.  Please let me know if you can find the drivers that will install for windows 7 64x.

thanks,

Hi:

I would try bypassing the gatekeeper in the Vista 64 bit driver...

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=3249660&sp...

Download and run the driver again. Close out of any error windows.

Go to the device manager. Click to expand the Display Adapters category. Click on the Standard VGA Adapter.  Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software method, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.  That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp41524.  Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

That's the driver I was already trying, I will try to install it your way rather than through the auto installer and let you know what the device manager shows for a driver afterwards (if it applies).

Thanks,

Re: Windows 7 Install On "HP Compaq dc5700 Microtower PC"

You're very welcome.

The auto installer checks for OS version and errors out when it doesn't find Vista.

The method I outlined is a back door method to the driver and bypasses the "gatekeeper" OS version checker.
