XP drivers for Pavilion m8120n

This is a sytem I downgraded from Vista a couple years ago with the help of this forum.  Do to a hard drive failure I'm in the process of reinstalling everything.  Looking in device manager, some of the drivers I'm missing are for the ethernet controller (one I got from Intel quits before completing the installation), wireless LAN, PCI device, PCI simple communications controller, and an SM Bus controller.  I believe the PCI device is a modem that I'm not using so don't really care about it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion m8120n

Most of the drivers require SP2.If your install doesn't have it get it first.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion m8120n

This is what I was looking for.  However, I'm still having trouble with some of the drivers loading.  I suspect it's a Windows problem.

The drivers for the chipset, audio and video load fine.  Neither the wireless nor the ethernet controllers will finish installing.  (I could care less about the wireless.)  Right after the installer unpackages the files and begins to install I get this error:  "This software requires the Windows Management Intrumentation Service.  This service is not currently running. Please start the service and then restart the installation."

I have spent several hours on this - keep in mind that I have to access the internet on a laptop, download and copy any files to a flash drive then try it on the Pavilion.

First off, the XP Services console shows that the Windows MIS service is running.  Both it and the Windows Installer Service have to be manually started each time after rebooting - also an abnormality.

Installing Service pack 3 doesn't help. In fact, it gives a message during install that wbemupgd.dll can not be found.  My research indicates that this has something to do with the installation exe that Intel uses (Closely integrated with Microsoft).

Downloading and installing the Windows Installer upgrade/hotfix for MS didn't help.

I'm beginning to think I have a bad XP installation disk - I've never had this problem before, either with this machine or numerous others I've installed XP on.

Any ideas?

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion m8120n

This has been very strange, but everything's working now!

I made another copy of the install disk with the SATA drivers and everything worked just as expected.  Must have been a glitch in the first CD I burned.  Wish I would have found that a couple days ago.

Thanks for the locations of the drivers again. That was very helpful. I'd forgotten all about the chipset drivers.  Now I'm babbling ...

Many kudos,

Dain

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion m8120n

Yep,when slipstreaming cds it can get flaky sometimes. I have made numerous slipstreamed disks with good results ..until a few weeks ago while trying to slipstream SP3 _I burned  4 coasters!

One suggestion,_Once you have XP running well with all drivers installed, make an Image of hdd_to easily  reinstall later if needed, no more driver searches.I have been using Macrium  and it is very good. Will backup to external USB hdd, CD/DVD, network drive, etc. It also creates a bootable cd to boot from and restore your entire OS in the event of problems. A fresh XP install with Office will backup on 1 DVD.

Macrium Reflect Disk Imaging:
