how use restore CDs on A1330n

I have a HP Pavilion a1330n.  It has been out of use and I've used the hard drive in the new computer first, to move over files, and then as storage.

I would like to restore the a1330 for a neighbor's son to use and have put the hard drive back into the Pavilion.  I also have the Restore CDs made when it was new, but am having a problem using them.  Instructions tell me to go into the BIOS and make put the hard drive on the 1st channel, but I can't get it to move from the 3rd channel to the 1st.

How do I do this?

It's the Phoenix BIOS, and not the most user friendly.

Thanks for any help.

Sometimes the most simple actions can be daunting. Let's try a different approach.

Re: how use restore CDs on A1330n

No luck.

The message is "These PC recovery discs do NOT support this PC model."  These are the discs I made 2/1/2006 a month or so after I bought the computer.  They are Memorex discs recommended by the store, however, I notice a purplish/blueish tinge on the working side.  Can this indicate a problem?

The discs haven't been out of their case since February 2006.  I even removed the sound card I installed when bought.  I did add some extra memory a few years later, but I doubt that would imply a different 'PC model'.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

I've tried the Recovery discs in both CD/DVD drives, but the results are the same.

I also put the DVD into my new computer and it appears there are files on it as put on originally.  I'm hoping that imples the DVDs are in good shape?

Re: how use restore CDs on A1330n

The BIOS is encoded with a dreaded "tattoo".  It inspects the system and the Recovery data for a match.

Did a message "Code Purple"  show up?

Small hardware changes are not supposed cause this error.  Can you put it back to original RAM?

Otherwise, I suggest this:http://www.computersurgeons.com/SearchProducts.aspx?sbt=a1330n&bkm=Results#Results

Yes, I suppose I can take out the extra RAM I put in.  Wish me luck.

Update:

Just went back to the original RAM, no change in results.

I'm assuming loading the recovery CDs has nothing to do with the hard drive.  I had wondered if there might be something on the hard drive confusing the system, but I'm assuming loading the recovery CDs, or attempting to load from the DVD drive will have nothing to do with the hard drive and that it will be re-written when the recovery DVDs work.

Or, is it worth re-formatting it.  Am I grasping at staws?

What partitions are on the drive presently?

Re: how use restore CDs on A1330n

When I put the drive into the new computer I created a 2nd partition for family photos.  I moved this onto a new drive and then merged the 2 partitions into 1.

I now see only 1 partition.
