dc5800 sff desktop
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm 2nd owner of computer and seems like previous owner had installed a Dell OS on this HP. Would be OK but hdd has disk errors that Windows can't repair. That leads to intermittent lock ups and all kinds of gyrations to get a Win 7 upgrade disk to restart Windows. HP doesn't sell the SRDs any more. I would be willing to pay for disks if anyone has a set left.

Hi:

Most of the dc5800's came with Windows Vista Business, or Vista Business downgraded to XP Pro, such as yours, so HP never had W7 recovery disks for the dc5800.

Did you call this number (USA/Canada) to see if HP has any Vista Business recovery disks left?

Ask for 64 bit because otherwise you will get 32 bit.

If they don't have any, you can still get a set from this non-HP vendor--looks like 32 bit only though.

You may want to call and ask if they have the Vista Business 64 bit sets.

Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful. I was able to get some more info on this machine and you were right about the Vista Business OS. It had been upgraded to Win 7 Pro but that was lost in the Dell install. I tried a site called Restore.com (Numus software) and it turned out to be  a scam. They said it was a factory recovery disk for the dc5800 but turned out to be a download for Win OS with no COA. I basically threw $20 away. Howerve, I did find a full factory restore disk set on eBay and negotiated a $20 price. It's a 32bit Vista Business edition but once I get the factory reset I can upgrade to Win 10, 64 bit for which I have a license. I'll post the results later. Fingers crossed.
