Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have now done 2 fresh installs with the HP recovery disks and both times windows update does not work. I have tried various fixes from microsoft that i have found online regarding this and nothing works.

I don't know if this is related but the system says SP1 is installed but when i look in installed updates it is not there. If i try to uninstall it from a command promt it says it is not installed and if i try to install it from the download from microsoft it says it is installed.

It is driving me bonkers. I would have expected it to work from a clean install but it doesn't.

Any help would be great.

Hello,

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

If it says SP1 is included, this means it is included and bundled with the system, therefore you cannot unintall it - it is part of the system - built in. You will not see it in the installed updates as it is built-in, not installed afterwards.

It is a known issue that now when you perform clean install of Windows 7, the updates installation will be delayed. This is caused due to many things including the fact that W7 is no longer Microsoft priority due to newer OS on the horizon suc h as Windows 10. Some users have reported that after clean installation it may take hours waiting until Windows 7 shows updates are available. But don't you worry - they are not that critical and you should not worry that much for them.

A  workaround I can offer is to :

- update Windows 7 Update Agent manually to the latest version >> https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/kb/949104

- download directly from MS "April 2015 Servicing stack update" and install it manually

- download Win 7 Convenience roll up update and install it manually

This update package, which combines updates dating all the way back to February 2011, isn’t being made available in Windows Update. If you’re installing a Windows 7 system from scratch, you’ll need to go out of your way to download and install it. If you don’t, Windows Update will download and install the updates one by one–the slower, more tedious way.

You will now have all Win 7 updates since its initial release till May 2016

After that you may try to install newer updates.

Hope this works for you. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for the brilliant tutorial.

I have followed it as you described and it has solved my problem for me.

I was trying to install and anti virus and firewall program and it said it could not go further because i have not updated windows. I followed your tutorial and now it has installed.

I am not sure if it will update on its own but i am not too bothered if it doesn't. Just really happy i got the software installed.

Thank you very much again for all your help.
