After several drivers were updated using DriverSmith software my computer crashed.

I just purchased "Spotmau BootSuite 2012" software to reboot. It is supposed to recover from severe crashes.

Unfortunately, after rebooting I discovered that my hard drive had been reformatted. I received an error message, "Cannot find any Windows on disk". The program did allow me to map my computer and it showed: Local Disk (C:smileyhappy: 145 GB Free of 145 GB.  System_Save (D:smileyhappy:  3.89 GB Free of 3.89 GB.  Boot (X:smileyhappy:  124 MB Free of 127 MB.

The operating system for my Compaq Presario SR1130NX Product No:smileytongue:C134A was Windows XP

My question is: Would a set of Recovery Disks work? I don't want to throw good money after bad. I am a senior citizen with not much experience with computers when things go wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Recovery Disks should work fine to reinstall your machine. HP doesn't carry disks for machines this age, but they can be purchased here for $27:

As a note_never use 3 party software to update drivers on your Pavilion or to boot it in bad situation. Normally you can tap the F10 key at power on to boot into Recovery mode to recover.
