Bios/driver updates for Windows 7?

I purchased my HP Pavilion Elite m9152p desktop well over a year ago and I've had some issues during startup.  I purchased a retail upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I performed a clean install, but it was doing the same thing before on Vista Ultimate x64.  Sometimes when I turn on my PC, it won't really do anything--sometimes I hear a POST beep, but there is nothing displayed on the screen.  I turn off my PC again, wait a minute or two and try to power it back up.  If it doesn't work, I just repeat until it finally does work.  Now my PC will hang at the blue HP bios screen and just stay there.  The bios version on-screen is v5.25 and the HP Support & Drivers shows a v5.36 available for download, but it will not install on my Windows 7 OS.  I've tried to run it in the Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode, but to no avail.  I WILL NOT restore my PC back to Vista using my recovery discs or using my Vista Ultimate retail discs just to install one BIOS update and then reformat/reinstall Windows 7 again.

Is there a way to run the "Vista only" BIOS updates and other drivers on my Windows 7 machine?  Will HP be releasing updated Windows 7-compatible drivers and updates soon

Re: Bios/driver updates for Windows 7?

To install BIOS update for your model on a Windows 7...you can try the following steps...

1. download the bios update onto the desktop
2. Unzip/Unrar it to a folder
3. install the bios update using Winflash file AFUWIN....

BIOS update link:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL25991/pv-66793-2/sp40908.exe

Re: Bios/driver updates for Windows 7?

Did you add memory or a graphics up card? If so, if you remove them, does the issue still occur?

Did you try disconnecting all external devices except the mouse/keyboard/monitor?

Disconnect your mp3 players, usb thumb drives, external hdd/odd

Remove any media in your usb card reader and in your ODD drives.

Unfortunately that does not work.  I tried running in different compatibility modes and always running as administrator.

Also, I have added an additional hard drive and replaced the graphics card with something different long before this problem started to occur.  The additional hardware and software on my computer has nothing to do with this problem since it is a pre-boot, pre-Windows problem with the BIOS.

Re: Bios/driver updates for Windows 7?

While I don't guarantee this to work - Vidya had the right idea, but you need a bit more information.

Start to run the softpaq, get past the opening screen with the details, etc, then when it asks you to perform the update, stop (but don't close the screen).

go to DOS - using the administrator option

type the following

cd %temp%

find a folder with the AFUWIN.EXE file in it and CHDIR to the temp folder name

ex: dir /s AFUWIN.EXE

then

CHDIR tempfoldername

then perform the AFUWIN update with the appropriate information behind it:

AFUWIN BEN5.32 /b /p /c

It should finish and then you can restart after closing the Softpaq.

No guarantees it will resolve your problem - but that should allow the BIOS update to run.

Re: Bios/driver updates for Windows 7?

Hi, are you able to provide me with a link to the IPIBL-LA motherboard Bios update version 5.11?  The current version is 5.13 and after flashing bios, my Q8300 cpu causes machine to lockup at boot screen.  I don't seem to be able to find that file from the ftp site, its like looking for a needle in a haystack.  Many thanks.
