Thank you for the suggestion, but I am trying to use 523.rom which I have already extracted from the link you posted.  If you look on page 1 of this topic, you will see me refer to 523.rom many times.

Re: Boot fail bios checksum error after update the bios

I found one comment that mentions that the AWD utility should only be ran under pure DOS and recommends DR-DOS (Free):

http://drdosprojects.de/cgi-bin/download.cgi/dr70107b.zip

You may want to throw these files onto a bootable disc or thumb drive and then run the utility.

Also... inside the RTF that is packaged with the BIOS updates is this: "

Updates AWDFLASH to v115M for MXIC SPI Flash Support."

You may want to try http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us

I wish you the best.

Re: Boot fail bios checksum error after update the bios

I'm having the same problem and wanna try the awdflash program. I found an appropriate bios file but I have no floppy drive and cant seem to get this to work off of a CD. Does anyone know how to make a dos-bootable CD with these files in it? I found a bootable Dos CD image but as soon as I add files to the iso, using an iso editor, it no longer boots, or it boots and then gives an error message. Please help. I tried to call but Im out of warrenty and they wont help.

Re: Boot fail bios checksum error after update the bios

[ Edited ]

I had the same problem 2 days ago! So like most I started lurking the web! Maaaaan was I scared cause I do Computer Repair from my house and I always update the BIOS just to keep it up to date! Some BIOS updates (like the one for this "Compaq Presario SR5023WM") have some good enhancements. Well after this situation, NO MORE BIOS UPDATES FOR ME! Unless of course they ask me too then I'll let them know the delicacy in this procedure...

What i did for the "Presario SR5023WM"...

Installed a floppy drive and booted off a floppy disk.

I created an MS-DOS startup disk (Start, My Computer, Right Click Floppy Disk Drive, Click Format & Check off "Creat an MS-DOS startup disk")

For that certain model I added "awdflash & ivy5.14" to the floppy disk after it was finished creating the MS-DOS startup disk. After that was done and created I popped the floppy disk into the "SR5023WM". The computer read it under A:\ I typed "awdflash ivy5.14" (With the space in between awdflash & ivy5.14, Without quotation marks) after that it flashed the bios and at the end you hit enter to restart your computer.

Man was I happy to see that Windows Vista startup screen!

Re: Boot fail bios checksum error after update the bios

Hi all. I am having the same problem! Argh and I'm not a techy. I load the disc that is Windows 7 64-bit repair. and the screen says found cdrom, try to Boot from it... Pass     then says Automatic Load AWDFLASH.EXE .....  but I don't know what to do from here.  I have the disc that I was prompt to make that had to be labeled Drive 1 and I  have all the recovery discs that I made from the pc, but I don't know what else to do from getting the screen with Automatic Load AWDFLASH.EXE.   It doesn't go any further than that and I can't type anything in or do anything but shut it down from holding the power button in and then I have to put the same repair disc back in after I restart it cause it states the BIOS ROM checksum error message. Any help is greatly appreciated!
