I replaced my hd in a Pavilion a6137c desktop with a WD drive because original drive was failing. Cloned the new drive with True Image. Works okay but cannot get updates from Microsoft site. Can I get my license rights transferred if that is the problem? Thank you.

Hi,
What is the model and size of the hard drive that you installed?
What operating system service pack level are you running?
When you right mouse click on MY Computer and select properties do you see "Windows Genuine"?

Hi Big Dave
Thank you for your prompt response
Here are the answeres to your 3 questions:
1. The new drive is a Western Digital (WD), SAGA, Black Caviar, 500 GB (actual capacity is 465.76 GB). The model # of the WD Drive = WDC WD5001AALS-00L3B2
An additonal note, old/source drive was a Hitachi deskstar, SATA, 320 GB. The model # is HDT725032VLA380,
2. The operating system is MS Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2.
3. When I click on "My computer" - "properties" I get the "view information" screen.... It does not show "windows genuine" specifically; except on the righ hand side where an icon reads , "ask for genuine Miscrosoft Software". That's probably just an advertisement...?
Thank you for your help - appreciate it.

Hi,
Go to disk management in VISTA and fully expand the screen. Did the imaging software fully expand the partitions to cover the size of the new hard drive?
Review this post to see if VISTA is genuine and activated.
Do you receive any error messages when you try to do Windows update?

Hello again
By chance I discovered the problem. The date and time settings in Windows was incompletely changed by me or another family member. Once correctly changed the Vista updates were easy to acquire from the MS site. However, I am now having problems with windows mail getting copies of my sent emails to show up in the "sent items" folder. Have you seen this type of problem before?
Thanks so much for your help. I am embarrassed I did not spot the date and time problem before.
