What is the best way to periodically back up my computer to an external hard drive. The HP 1 TB Personal Media Drive came with the program Roxio which didn't work for me. The HP website had the program HP Sure Store as a back up program recommended for my HP Media Drive. I installed the HP SureStore program but kept getting prompted to set up the Windows back up program. I then went to Windows 7 System and Security and set up the windows backup.
Question: Should I use just one backup program? Should I use both the HP SureStore program and the Windows backup? What is the recommended backup method?

I would suggest that you use the program that does the job for you. Either one mentioned should work. I see no reason to use more than one, if the backup software did its job to your satisfaction. Using more than one will get confusing as backing up is a continuous process.

Thank you for your quick response. I would like to delete the HP SureStore backup. This program does not appear in the add remove programs. Do you have any idea how to get rid of it or how to disable it?

I do not use it and have not actually seen it BUT from this guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01944539.pdf
It would seem to maybe reside on the HP Pocket Media Drive, if you have one. It that is not a choice, I would do a search for the software to see where it resides. It has to be somewhere to load, if as the guide says, you can see it :
The HP SureStore Monitor appears in your system tray as shown on page 8 of the guide. From the page 5 of the guide:
HP SureStore does not need to be installed on your computer. The software runs directly from your HP PMD.
So, some places to look, anyways.

It is on the Personal Media Drive. This really helps explain the issue. I don't see an uninstall, but I can probably just delete the folder from the HP Personal Media Drive. Thank you.
