Cookies folder(s) in Windows 7

I like to micromanage my cookies, and I have been unable to find the folder(s) in Windows 7. My previous machine (which died horribly) ran Vista, and there were two folders, one named "Cookies" and one "Low". I have my Folders Options set to show hidden folders/files, but no joy finding the folders.

Also, whilst I have your attention, does anyone know why the cookie file names saved by IE8 changed from descriptive (e.g. facebook.com) to a random alphanumeric mess (e.g. L8U1906V)? Makes it harder to micromanage the cookies.

Hi,

For IE8, it should be in %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

Re: Cookies folder(s) in Windows 7

Hi,

There are some ways to Micromanage cookies running Windows 7.

  1. Download and use cookienator (it's a freebie).  You can setup your own desired filters and the when to clean out cookies.
  2. Use IE 9 to control cookies under Tools --> Internet Options ----> Privacy TAB.
  3. Use IE 9 under the General TAB --> Delete browsing history and look over the selection for cookies.
  4. Use a product like Norton Internet Security to scan for cookies and take the actions that you desire.

I use cookienator and set it for everyday that I log on and then pretty much forget about cookies.  If cookienator misses something then Norton Internet Security cleans up the rest.

Crap Cleaner from www.ccleaner.com... free and cleans your unwanted cookies as well as options to save specific ones.  I use it everyday and advise everyone to do the same or at least use a similar application.
