a load of drivers on my notebook crapped out. i can't connect to the internet (wifi or ethernet), use usb, and other things. All of the drivers from the "human interface devices", the modems, the network adapters, sound, and usb controllers get the following error message:
"WIndows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
i tried burning the Realtek LAN Driver onto a disk from this computer to try and get the ethernet back up but it says it's not installing correctly. HELP!

Go to my Computer, right mouse click on the hard drive, properties, tools and then check button.
When that is done go to the RUN window and enter: chkdsk
When that is done go to the RUN window and enter:
cmd
sfc/scannow -------> this will verify your critical system files and attempt repairs
exit

i clicked the 'check now' box in the error-checking box (that's the only checking relating box) but when i go to schedule a disk check (after getting error message "Windows can't check the disk while it's in use") i click the button and nothing happens.

Use HP Recovery Manager in your Start Menu to reinstall drivers...or if it comes down to a complete reinstall of Windows 7.

What did not work? Tips offered by Big_Dave or HP Recovery Manager to reinstall drivers? Or both?
