Digitalpersona Personal 3.1.0.3283 Uninstall Error

Hi there,

I tried to upgrade my DigitalPersona PersonalSoftware from 3.1.0.3283 to 4.11. Unfortunately during the process I was asked for the Setup.msi for the 3.1.0 version to uninstall which. I'm sitting now 2.5 hours finding the package without success. I cannot install 4.11 because the uninstaller cannot remove 3.1.0. I'm running Vista on my Pavilion DV5 1230 ET laptop. Help would be much appreciated.

I spent several hours on the phone with HP tech support on 24 Oct with the same problem.  After lots of dithering, he tried using HP's built-in Recovery Manager to reinstall the original version of DP.  This failed, giving the same error messages.  Apparently, the failed install of v. 4.11 corrupted the DP program and caused a "reader not detected" issue.  In the end, we did a system restore, which did fix the problem, though it's still the old driver version.  I had created a restore point just prior to trying to install v. 4.11.  You might try that, even if your restore point is a bit older.  The tech could not explain why the update failed other than to guess that v. 4.11 is for Windows 7 and is not compatible with Vista (doesn't make sense to me).  If you do find a solution for a safe install of v. 4.11, please let me know.  For what it's worth, the prompt for the update to v. 4.11 came directly from DP via its systray icon, not from the HP update process, so HP isn't responsible for the problem.

Hi Utah,

I found the v3 installer on rapidshare. But the guys from Digitalpersona also provided the file. In the end I was able to remove v3 and afterwards installed v4.11 which works fine with vista . I had the old driver installed which sometimes caused reader not detected error after stand by. Any way updating the driver should do the trick I don't know if it was worth the effort going over to v4.11 and yet again confirmed the rule "don't touch it if it works", ultimately it's just a stupid fingerprint reader
