Re: Disappointed and Depressed about into just received about Vista

Yeah, lots of the time those whining are those with more money than sense who buy something as soon as it comes out without being ready for the inevitable bugs (unlike lots of the people on these pages who are happyish to help identifying the bugs - thank you all, SP1's made it a lot better). I suppose I'm the prime example of this, as I didn't need much I just had Windows 98, (without the internet of course, the culture shock would probably kill it) I really only upgraded to Vista because I was worried about the hardware going (and I wanted some better tech of course). The first thing I actually did was turn off Aero. But I think the beneath the skin stuff is really good, like the new security and the way it makes it that much easier to do basic stuff like networking. Since SP1 you can get most hardware/software working, the only place I've failed was with an old scanner (and software) which presumeably relied on the registry being like 95', so it was badly written. Lots of stuff runs quite happily provided you give it admin privileges that sort of thing.

Ha Ha ...you were right, they have directed me back to the web site.  I can read and have already tried the obvious.  Oh well, back to the drawing board!

all you guyz are right. Just understand one thing.

for NOVICE GUYZ: you won't have XP support anymore, so be with vista

I see some people say "i love the vista graphics", try UBUNTU for graphics and BackTrack3 (coders) and u'll forget windows :smileyhappy:

I'm not really a fan of Vista graphics, you don't need aero to get things done. However, HP on its information about Vista said that Vista has 'new security features like Windows Aero.' Funny.

BUMP

What is the model/product number of your printer/scanner device so I can look it up and give you the right answer?

Re: Disappointed and Depressed about into just received about Vista

Hi my printer is a hp psc 1205 all-in-one and the numbers on the bottom of the printer is Q1659A and the model number is SDGOA-0201. There is also another number which is HU37PDP331 but I am not sure what this is.  Anything would be a great help thanks Elaine.

Re: Disappointed and Depressed about into just received about Vista

Waht kind of problems re you having with your printer?  Is it an HP product?

I also just bought a new computer and had to get Vista.  I have had some problems, mostly getting hardware properly recognized as easily as XP did.  But I have solved most of the problems and Microsoft is working with me to get my Firewire deviecs properly recognized and operating.

One problem I had was that my duplex printing attchment on my HP 7410 OfficeJet wasn't recognized at first.  On startup, Vista does not recognize this option but it can be changed. The second problem was that the backside of each page was printing upside down. This si a problem with a toggle not working and there is a fix for this. You can find it on the HP Support Forum under the rpinters forum.

Re: Disappointed and Depressed about into just received about Vista

Well good news and bad news.  You can print to your PSC in Vista.  Here's a document that shows you how to achieve that:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01655752&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&pro...

The bad news is, if they haven't come out with the full featured software package yet, they aren't likely to so you won't be able to use the scanner, at least not with an HP solution.  You can however use Vuescan.  Visit here to check them out:

I don't know why you need an adapter since the printer comes with a USB port and any computer running Vista should have USB ports available.  You just have to get the cable, it's not referred to as an adapter.

Re: Disappointed and Depressed about into just received about Vista

Thanks for the information.  I have used the printer before with vista with no problems.  The problems started when I deleted the printer from the computer accidentally.  All of the information on the pages you suggested are no good as they presume some idiot has not deleted it off the computer.  Thanks for trying Elaine
