Does Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard support virtualization?

The motherboard that comes with the HP Pavilion a6642p Desktop PC is the Asus IPIBL-LB.  Does this motherboard support virtualization?  If so, is there a BIOS upgrade the enables virtualization.  I am trying to run a Linux VM using Oracle Virtual Box and I get the following error message.

VT-x not enabled or not in MSR

I have upgraded the CPU to a Intel Coure 2 Quad Q6600 but this problem existed with the Intel Pentium Dual Core that came with the system.  The Pentium did not have VTx capability but the Q6600 dues.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Re: Does Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard support virtualization?

Please refer to this HP document titled "BIOS Settings for the Asus IPIBL-LB Benicia Motherboard". Scroll down to the section titled "Power menu settings" for the location of this option in BIOS. To enable in BIOS, select the "Power" tab and change "Virtualization Technology" from "Disabled" to "Enabled".

Re: Does Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard support virtualization?

Yes, that did it.

Just a note:  I had a Pentium Dual Core CPU in the MOBO and the virtualization option did not show up anywhere.  I upgraded the CPU to a Core 2 Qaud Q6660 (which has VT-x) and now the virtualiztion option shows up in my BIOS.

Enabling the Virtualiztion in the BIOS did the trick -- once it showed up... :-)

Interesting how the BIOS did not display the option until I got a VT-x enabled CPU.

Thanks.
