Does HP recovery process limit hard drive upgrade on m8200n?

Pavilion m8200n running vista home premium crashed.  Original 500 Gig Hard drive was small for my needs.  Now recovery discs will not install to new 1.5 T HD upgrade.  New 1.5 T drive is compatible and works on  8200 with test of windows 7 RC, so I know it's some sort of permissions problem with the recovery process.  I read the HP EULA and it said I could run vista software on only this computer.  that's what I am doing.  so why can't I partition and install w recovery on bigger drive? Does this mean I am permanently stuck with this smaller drive unless I buy a new operating system?  Doesn't seem right?  Thanks.

There should not be a problem with the drive. The disks only care about the motherboard really. However, if you've added any other hardware, remove that. Alternatively, put the large drive in an external eSATA or USB enclosure and use it as an external storage device, putting your programs on the original disk.

However, your product specs say it has 3 3.5" HDD bays, with 2 available. This surely means you can use the drive internally as well as your old one? If the new drive, as it probably is, is SATA you may need a power adapter, alternatively it may take either the SATA adapter or the IDE 4 pin Molex.
