HP 8200 Elite SFF

Hi

I've been trying to find an .inf file for the sata controller for the HP8200 with no luck so far.

The device id is 8086&DEV_1c08 this device does not appear in any of the storage drivers I have looked at so far.

I need the specific driver to add it to the mass storage controllers for a sysprep.ini file so the machine will boot into WindowsXP.

Any ideas?

Hi:

The SATA AHCI file you need is the:

Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller.

I have zipped and attached both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the entire Intel storage controller driver files below, since you didn't list what bit version you need.

The.inf file doesnt contain the 8086&DEV_1c08 device but I will give it a try.

I have an 8200 Elite and I have installed XP at the F6 prompt with a USB floppy and used the above controller to install XP.

Also when you look in the device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers the SATA ACHI controller is labeled as the Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller.

So, I know that is the AHCI driver you need for whatever purpose you need it.

Hi,

You might want to consider merging the Intel sata drivers into a Windows XP installation disk using Nlite.  There are procedures to do this at Nlite. 

I have built a Windows XP sp3 installation disk with Intel drivers and it really is an excellent way to install sata drivers when installing XP. This method is quite common and is also documented well under the HP laptop topics for down grading to XP. In some cases it's an upgrade depending on your point of view.

I agree with Dave.

I made one of those slipstreamed HP Windows XP Pro installation disks for business notebooks (it works on any HP notebook or desktop w/o need the product key) using nLite, and the 32 bit drivers I uploaded above, and I can install XP Pro on any HP Desktop PC or notebook with an XP Pro license with the Intel 945 chipset, on up.

But sometimes I like the "stone knives and bearskins" way of installing the XP SATA/RAID drivers by hitting the F6 key and accessing from a USB FDD just to keep in practice.

I tested the drivers provided yesterday Paul and they dont work with the sata controller in the 8200 I have been provided. There seems to be multiple versions of the 8200 with different sata configuration's and video cards.

The hardware id 8086&DEV_1c08 does not seem to appear in any inf file I can find.

nlite was used to tweak the initail image but I've always added sata drivers to the mass storage controller area of the sysprep file and never had an issue before. The chipset is a c200 series contoller or at leat thats what its being picked up as when I set the BIOS to IDE mode.

Some college's in a differnet area set the model to IDE during their build process because they also could not find an XP driver,  but Im against doing this and would like the sata controller configured correctly.

Hi:

You can always add the SATA AHCI controller from IDE mode after you install Windows XP in IDE mode, reboot and change the BIOS setting back to AHCI after you install the AHCI driver (and you can report to your colleagues to do the same so the PC's can take advantage of NCQ).

Change the SATA emulation setting from AHCI to IDE. Save the setting there and again when you exit.

Install XP.

Here's how to change the BIOS setting back to AHCI after you install XP in IDE mode.

1. Install the chipset driver first & reboot:

The following steps are used for installing AHCI drivers in Windows XP operating system installed using the IDE mode.

2. Download AHCI driver from downloadcenter.intel.com (second download listed 32 bit) then extract the files to a folder you name. Put the folder on your C: drive and remember where you put it so you can browse to it .

3. Right-click the My Computer icon, click Manage, select Device Manager

4. Click the + symbol beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers , this would show the devices under this category.

5. You will find the Intel native SATA storage controller driver installed.

6. Right-click  the Serial ATA storage 4 Port controller listed, and click Update Driver .

7. In Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard, select No, not this time. Click Next .

8. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) . Click Next

9. Select Don't search I will choose the driver to install . Click Next

10. Click Have Disk

11. Click Browse

12. Select location: c:\folder you saved ACHI drivers to.

13. Select iaAHCI.inf

14. Click Open

15. This will list several SATA AHCI Controllers. From this list, select the Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller. Click Next.

16. The Update Driver Warning will be shown. Click Yes

17. The driver will install, and completing the Hardware update Wizard appears. Click Finish

18. You can find the updated controller in the device manager.

19. During restart, press the F10 key and boot to BIOS setup utility . Go back to your device configurations sub menu and change the SATA Mode back to ACHI, save settings there (F10) and upon exit, save changes and reboot.

Now, the SATA driver is successfully installed and the desktop will boot into Windows with SATA Device Mode set to AHCI.
