HP 8200 Small Form Factor - Extreme slow Startup

I am having a big problem with our  HP 8200 Small Form FActor computers after installing XP, SP3.

After installing all drivers and running Windows Update, the computer is VERY slow to start (about 3 min.) The computer starts, and i can see the desctop. I can also open explorer, but the computer "hangs" for about 3-4 min.  When opening "services" i can see that the problem is the WORKSTATION service wich is stuck at "Starting" for some minutes.

I belive the problem is with thew network connections. I have 3 network cards installed in the computer. If i disable all 3 cards, the problem disappears, and the computers starts after about 10 seconds.  If i enable one of them (or more) the problem reappears.

My network cards:

- Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network

- Intel PRO/1000 GT Desctop Adapter

- Intel Gigabit CT Desctop Adapter

All drivers are installed from the Intel win32.exe (version 17) driver.

Do anyone know how i can fix this problem ? I have tried to reinstall the network drivers without luck.

How is your PC configured?

What is the complete product name or product number of your HP desktop PC?

For what reason are you using three network adapters in the PC?

Is the XP PC set up as a router?

What is the installed CPU and version of Windows XP (32 or 64-bit) ?

If this problem started after installing service pack three then you may wish to consider removing service pack 3 for troubleshooting purposes.

Re: HP 8200 Small Form Factor - Extreme slow Startup

The product number: XY145ET#UUW.  This problem appears on all our 8200 computers (only with XP - not with Win 7). We have earlier used 7800, 7900, 8000 and 8100 computers. We have never seen this problem before now.

For what reason are you using three network adapters in the PC?

We are using thees computers on ships/rigs to run the automation system. 2 networks goes to the redundant controll system, one network is for the communication between the computers .

Is the XP PC set up as a router?

No. Its setup as a normal computer.

What is the installed CPU and version of Windows XP (32 or 64-bit) ?

Operator system: Win xp pro. 32 bit.

SP3 comes with the installation cd.  After installation of operator system, but before installation of drivers, the problem with slow startup disappears. After installation of drivers (from HP webpage) the problem with slow startup appears

Re: HP 8200 Small Form Factor - Extreme slow Startup

I suggest updating the BIOS as a possible solution. Here is a link to the drivers & software download page.

I tend to agree with that, specifically the SP3 package. Is Windows XP SP2 install media available? That is what I would use on a test platform to resolve the issue.
