I've got an HP Firebird 802 and HP Update is attempting to install the ESA System Tools Application Update (sp40988) which provides control over the onboard LED lighting among other things.
The update fails with the following error:
1488: RegQueryValue: Registry value is a REG_EXPAND_SZ. Use RegQueryExpSz instead.
On line 84 of W:\Patches\IP\sp40988\install.wbt
In Routine "uninstallroutine"
b=RegQueryValue@RegMachine,
"SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer
I've tried installing the update manually with the same results. A search of the forums turned up a similar problem, on a Touchsmart:

Help! (Based on the PunkBusterSvc reference, my guess is the update & Crysis aren't playing nice ... for whatever reason)

I forgot to mention that yes, I have 64-bit Vista installed. It's actually a fresh install (5 hours old when I wrote the original msg) off the HP recovery disks, with only Crysis, Crysis Warhead & Quicken 2008 installed. Stock hardware, aside from a Linksys USB wifi stick.
