HP Pavilion Media Center m8430f Desktop PC - Upgraded to 7 - BSOD XP Mode - Solved

Updated to 7 ultimate yesterday and it went pretty much flawless until I started using xp mode - after a couple of BSOD's I upped the memory to 2 gigs (half of my available 4) and lo and behold THAT did the trick!

I didn't updated the bios prior to going to 7 (yeah I know) but I did enable the cpu virtualization bios setting - all it took to get xp mode working properly (in 16 bit color) was more ram for xp to use

If you need 24 bit color just disable the auto integrations before you start up the vm  (only downside is disk access is limited, there are no shared drives but if you have software that need more color depth it's a small price)

Wasn't crazy about vista (glad I had the 64 bit version) but after a day in 7 it's SO worth the $220 for the ultimate update

So far each and every vista annoyance is GONE and my once pretty snappy machine is now OMG fast - even IE opens almost fast!

:smileyhappy:

That is great to hear. Thanks for the tip, IMspintheweb! I had never heard of your fix before.
