HP Pavln 8756C Wme- recovery disk installation Error-Hard Disk not found-Recover aborted

I'm attempting to install the recovery disks, I received Error Msg: Hard Disk was not found! - Recover was aborted.

Msg also says: If hard disk installed, the cables may be loose or disk may not be initialized. May need to run the FDisk program to initialize the disk.  I don't know what that is,..can anyone help.

Your hard drive may have failed and needs to be replaced, common in a machine of this age. Or as mentioned in the error the cable attached to it may need to be checked. Remove the side panel and check that the wide gray cable is plugged into back of hdd securely. Don't remove it it unless you are familiar with the pin configuration_just push in on it firmly.

Enter BIOS setup by tapping away at the F1 key immediately after powering on the machine. Is the hard drive recognized there?

What preceded this attempt to use Recovery Disks?

Re: HP Pavln 8756C Wme- recovery disk installation Error-Hard Disk not found-Recover aborted

Thanks for your speedy response, prior to error msg, I had a new power supply/pack installed, after that, computer not reading hdd, that's when I attempted to install recovery dsks. before I could try your suggestions, had a friend take a look, he found the comptr not reading main cdrom drive/was reading secondary only, so he disconnected the secondary and was then able to install recovery dsks. Don’t know what happened, but its ok now.
