HP Pavilion m9357c, Vista 64
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 (ST3750630AS) 750 GB SATA 3G/b
Hard Drive Failed......
I purchased and installed a new hard drive with the same specs, i.e..: SATA 3GBs 16Gb 7200, but the size of the new drive was 500GB instead of 750Gb as the original..
I ordered a set of System Recovery Discs from HP. System Recovery Discs and system BID#'s are the same with the exception of the last digit which is a 3 on the system and a 1 on the discs. When I boot with the #1 disc the system goes through the normal routine of "Loading Windows Files" with the progressing white bar indicator. This appears to complete and the following error message appears on the screen.....
"This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs.
You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs."
HP Technical Support provided no help.
It was suggested here in the Support Forum that HP Recovery discs would have problems with the smaller than original drive, but should not have a problem with a larger drive. So, I purchased another new drive, same brand and specs as the original drive, with the exception that the new drive is a 1TB drive.
New drive is installed but I still receive the same error message.
Does the difference in the last digit of the BID#'s make a difference? Do I need to partition the new drive for the HP Recovery discs to work?
I have tried every trick I can recall but nothing helps.
PLEASE, any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated!

Hello and thank you for joining the HP Forums. There are multiple reasons why this may be happening. If you will be patient and work with me I will do my very best to help you resolve this issue. The information you gave in your post is great and thank you for all the details. Please answer two more questions for me:
1. How old is your computer?
2. What are the first seven digits of your serial number?
Please post rather than sending a Private Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly.- Thank you.
Please click the White Kudos star on the left to say thanks.

I did notice the moderator had removed the information I had asked for, so thank you for going the extra step to get it to me. I was checking to see if your machine was covered by a particular setup and found that it is not. In your recovery disc set since the BID on your computer is a three and the discs are one, you should have received a supplemental disc with at least a 2 on the end (1+2=3...our Build ID math). Did you receive the supplemental disc? If you did not then you will need to contact support at 1-800-HPINVENT to order the supplemental disc for your machine. If you did receive the supplemental disc please let me know if the recovery asks for that disc anywhere in the process. Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve the issue.

Hi techgrl38,
I should explain the reason the information was removed is that serial numbers are considered personal information and are not allowed on a public forum where others can use that information for their own purposes.
You are welcome to share that information via private messenger ![]()
Thank you,

Yes, I did receive a supplemental disc. BID# on discs 1 & 2 is 83NAv6PrA1, BID# on the supplemental disc is
83NAv6PrA1S3. These came directly from HP Support
No, it never asks for the supplemental disc because the recovery process never really begins. I insert disc 1:3 and boot the system. The system goes through the Vista start-up, then the following error message pops-up, "This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs." It never gets beyond this point.
This is a NEW hard drive which has NOT been partitioned or formatted as Windows usually does that during installation.

Have you replaced or upgraded any other hardware on the machine besides the hard drive?

No. No hardware has been changed (with the exception of the new hard drive), upgraded or added.

Have you been able to come-up with any other suggestions to resolve this issue? Should I buy Vista Home Premium 64 (since HP will not provide a copy that will work) and install it then attempt to use the Supplemental Disk? I just can't believe that HP will not help in resolving this issue. They had no problem selling me the system initially and no problem selling me the Recovery Discs, but they sure have no response in supporting either. I DO appreciate the help you are attempting to provide!
I purchased the Recovery Discs on January 20, 2012 and have been attempting to get this issue resolved since the day I received the discs. It is a little frustrating. If you have ANY suggestions please make them.
