Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

That's probably Ok, but run through the following procedure.

Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Updates and click the Check for updates link in the left pane.  If any updates are recommended, click the Apply Updates button and when the process has completed, restart the PC again.  If no updates are found, restart the PC anyway and see if you still receive any warning flag when the system has rebooted.  If you don't, everything would look to be Ok.

Regards,

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

So the HPSA downloaded an ATI thing, and then something popped up with my winpatrol about allowing a one time start up for it called a log.xml
When I rebooted I saw a black screen and a bunch of white letters, and the top said something about WinSAT.exe and it kept doing something about directx. Is this normal?

Hi,

It looks like HPSA has downloaded an updates graphics driver ( ATI ) and the CCC.exe reference is for the Catalyst Control Centre which is the ATI interface and configuration utility for your ATI card.  There is no issue with either of these components.  The ATI installer will also create a log file as part of the process which can be viewed in case some of the software doesn't install correctly - again, this is to be expected.

The reference to WinSAT ( Windows System Assesment Tool ) occurs simply because a new graphics driver has been installed and Windows would like to refresh the performance index - if you open windows Control Panel and open Performance Information and Tools, you will probably see a notification that Windows needs to refresh the Windows Experience Index.  Just click to allow this and after about 5 minutes this will have completed.  It's not necessary to run this, but you may find that the new graphics driver has improved the sub-scores for Graphics and Gaming Graphics a little.

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

I remember having Catalyst control center a few months ago but it kept having errors. Is it okay if I keep this disabled via WInpatrol?

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

HPSA seems to work perfectly EXCEPT for the health analysis feature, which doesn't work. It makes the connection but the rest fails (downloads, etc.)

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

Does HP Support Assistant now show up as an installed application in Programs and Features?

Re: HP Support Assistant not working properly?

Hi,

As the original installation looked like it had corrupted in some way, it may not have uninstalled completely, which may explain the problem you now have when trying to run a health analysis.

Assuming this is the case, I would suggest going through the procedure of uninstalling and reinstalling HPSA ( as shown again below ) now that the uninstall routine appears to have registered correctly with Windows this time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by opening windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP Support Assistant and select Uninstall.  When this process has completed, restart the PC.

Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.

After the installation, restart the PC again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When this has been completed and Windows has fully reloaded, see if you can now run a health analysis.

Regards,
