Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

marymmcc,

I have to agree with you .. I have a dual OS Windows Vista Business 32 bit downgraded to XP Pro on Drive C: and I installed Vista Business 64 bit on my other hard drive. I noticed that some of my device drivers were not compatible with the 64 bit  Version of Vista. But when I upgraded Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional I had no device driver errors.  I had the weather channel desktop gadget which would not work in Vista 64 bit, but worked flawlessly in Windows 7 Pro. in program compatibility mode. I really am impressed with the improvement of speed of Windows 7 Pro.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I am not aware if I am the only one with this issue: I purchased a desktop unit (e9120f) in August - Windows 7 free upgrade was already in place.

I now have tryed to order the free kit however the product number and serial number of the unit is not recognized - I get an error that the serial number is not in the data base.

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

If your drivers don't work with Vista, they sure won't work with windows 7.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I think the vista driver will work for you, the problems I had is they don't have Vista drivers for my printer Minolta 2300DL Color Laser Printer, and the new Windows 7 also did Not want to work with My One Touch 640 Gig Backup drive, My cannon scanner also didnt have drivers.

the Program Carbonite is an online backup had no Idea what to do and it kept getting errors ,Windows 7 said no solution found when it tried to find the solution.

I returned the computer I will Waite until they get the bugs out or If I have to buy all new hardware I might just make the jump to Mac.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-51941-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&... . Download and install the BIOS update. I just did. Worked for me.

Looks like the same MB is used across multiple systems. I feel you will be successful.

Happy Windows 7 to you.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Hi: this thread comes closest to my problem, so maybe someone can help.

I have an HP Pavilion 1620uk.  I ran the Windows 7 compatability checker which found the computer to be fine to run Win7, so I installed the 32-bit Premium version as a dual boot.

Windows 7 runs fine except for the minor difficulty that it can't connect to the internet!  With (generous) web-chat support from a Microsoft techie I found I had two problems in device manager under Windows 7: one was my ethernet connection.  I solved that readily by replacing the existing PCI ethernet card with a newer card.  But I still have one 'unknown device' in Device Manager, and I still have no internet connection (via LAN).

HP support was very helpful, considering their basic position is that I shouldn't attempt to change the operating system on a computer they supplied.  They mailed me updates for all the motherboard devices; however, I still have no success in connecting and I still have the 'unknown device' in my system.  Under XP this device is the 1394 connection - but surely that's just the firewire port?

Can anyone offer any good ideas?  I think it's poor that my system passes Microsoft's compatability check but fails once I've purchased their system!

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I recently registered for the Win 7 update on my new laptop. I went to the sight and registered, also providing info to cover shipping. I did not have a copy of my receipt at the time so I concluded finishing the process. The next day i got the receipt and wanted to correct the purchase date I posted the day before and get the instructions for scanning a copy of the receipt. When I returned to do so the link said my computer was already registered. I can not find any way to finnish the transaction.
