Hi JNO,

It's possible you are trying to install a 64bit OS on a 32bit PC.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Suggest you not upgrade to windows 7 at this time.  Too many incompatibility issues.  I have attempted to help clients with this upgrade and it is a disaster.  I suggest you wait until drivers for all your peripherals are available before you upgrade.  It is always not a good ideal to not upgrade until all the devices that are attached are updated to work with Windows 7.

BTW  I'm not impressed with windows 7.

Just my opinion.

Good day all.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

a1430n is compatible with Windows 7. Use Windows update, and HP update  using Vista drivers

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I would return it I purchased one  2+ months ago and no windows 7 and no idea when they will be shipping it it is just a paper weight until windows 7 comes in or I will format it out and put XP on it. I have windows 7 on this new desktop a HP p6240f , I am not impressed with it , I am finding most of my software will not work , call it VISTA 2

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I have had problems with the upgrade as well, HP is not moving , they are more concerned on selling the computer with windows 7 on them and don't seem to care about the promise they made for the free upgrade that really isn't free .

They should take back all the vista machines they sold on the promise they are not keeping , I was told I would get the upgrade October 22nd now that the date has come and gone they have no Idea when it is going to be released to the people that purchased computer on the promise.

HP needs to honor their promise before they sell more computer and should offer the disks right away we do not deserve to be put on the back burner . Or HP should take the machines back . My vista Machine is useless it is a paper weight , I cant get my printer to work on it and half my programs will not work, so I just put it away until HP come clean on its promise of windows 7 upgrade and Hope it works.

I do not have a good feeling about this I think Windows 7 is going to known as ( Vista II ) I did go out and purchase a new desk top with (windows 7) on it  it did not work any better than Vista , my printer did not work , my scanner did not work and my back up drive did not work .I tried installing some software and that didnt work either , Carbinite Backup didn't work . I returned the desktop today . Windows 7 has way too many bugs to buy at this point .

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Wow..I just have to respond. I didn't have any problems doing a clean install of Windows 7. Every driver was available. It is so much faster than Vista, and not anything like Vista's rollout problems with incompatibility. Windows 7 has a similar look to Vista, (and I like the look), Windows 7 is everything Vista was supposed to be. I love it. One caveat - do not install AVG Free. It causes the disk to thrash, and slows the whole machine considerably.
