Hi,
I have a problem with my hitachi 3tb (HDS5C3030ALA630) for the 2nd time. It all works great untill at some time the drive renders unaccessible. After a reboot the drive appears in the list of available drives but when i try to access it, it tells me the drive is not formatted and needs to be formatted. Now this drive is full with data (and luckily backed up), and somehow lost it's GPT partition table data? I'm so confused on how this happens. It happened for the 2nd time in 4 months now, and i just don't want to go through the process of formatting and putting my backups back over and over again.
Is this due to a failing harddrive or does my computer cause this? (i'm not sure if it has anything to do with accessing the platters on the disk, because it worked untill it had 2TB in use, however.. it did always show the full capacity).
Thanks in advance,
Marcus

Could this have something to do with the Intel® Rapid storage drivers that are not functioning properly?
I have read a post about it which required an update of these drivers to properly support the >2TB cap.
I'm wondering this because the drive just failed after it had 1TB left of it's capacity...
Anyone can confirm this? I re-formatted my drive again! and installed the latest Intel® rapid storage drivers which is 10.6.
Now putting back my external backup... which requires 15hrs... sigh!!

Hi Marcus,
The Intel drivers are not the issue.
The bios in your PC will not support a 3TB hard drive natively as a boot drive. You can either return the hard drive and get a 2 TB hard drive or go to the Hitachi web site and read this posted information. You will need to format the 3TB as GPT and not mbr. You should have received a disk with the 3TB hard drive.

Hi Dave,
The drive is not a boot drive, and has been made a GPT drive, so that's not the issue.
The bios understands it's a 3tb drive as i have verified this when i bought these drives.

Hi Marcus,
Why are you even using the Intel Storage Technology on a motherboard that doesn't even have an Intel chipset? Get rid of it.
Apply the latest bios update if you haven't already done so.
You also need to use the Hitachi GPT Disk Manager.

Hello Dave,
Why i use the intel storage driver, uhmm well, maybe because the official HP support page with drivers recommends me this?
Look at Driver - Storage (1)
Now please tell me who is wrong here...

Hello Dave,
That is another system you are talking about.
The f and nl seems to make a great difference. But that's something you should know better than me ![]()
Anyways, now that you know the system i have, maybe you could give the correct support?
Marcus
