HP pavilion m9100z with AMD Phenom X4 9500 CPU-RANDOM BSOD

Hi,

Any one using a HP pavilion with an early AMD Quad Core & Vista....?

I bought this as a refurbished unit, and upgraded it to the latest 5.13 bios, and ever since i had numerous BSOD , all in different error codes, not the same every time.  I tried to get it fixed under warranty, but I was out of the country, and HP could honor the warranty anymore...

I even loaded a Vista x86  from a CD fresh install rather than the factory image, and it BSOD during the setup and install process...

So is it a bad AMD CPU or a motherboard issue...?  I heard these early Quad Core had issues and numerous errata.....

the MB is the M2N68-LA (Narra3), is it it a bios issue...?

thanks in advance

What happens when you do a factory image from F11? BSOD should not happen in Recovery Manager.  Have you tried downgrading the BIOS?  I am not sure if that is the issue, but worth a try.

Re: HP pavilion m9100z with AMD Phenom X4 9500 CPU-RANDOM BSOD

the factory image via F11 is Vista, sans SP1, but I get numerous Application shutdows, e..g, Windows explorer crashes, and Vista reports it in eventvwr and restart the service or applet.

on the support/drivers HP page, there or no older Bios that I can use...

Neverthless, a fresh CD install using the Microsoft Factory CD should not not hang or fails in setup with a BSOD.

Again, some component on this pavillion is funky, and I have no issue with replacing either the CPU or MB or both.  I just want to get some advice from other pavillion users who might have seen this issue with these early AMD x4 Pheonm processors...

thanks in advance

Try running PC Doctor diagnostics test against the hardware.  I believe its F9 from BIOS.   There are several tests you can do, like memory, CPU, motherboard.

Yep, thx for the advice, done that via F9 and no issues, even ran their stress test,  also ran MEMTEST off a CD and no issues....

Did you change any settings in BIOS?  Please use "load default settings" .  Sometimes if you set the wrong IDE will BSOD, you can try setting SATA controller to IDE, that should load fine.  If not, try AHCI.
