Re: Help with a downgrade plz

Yup, this is somewhat of a frankenPC. I got the dc7800 without power supply, optical disk or hard drive, for less than $30 on eBay. A new power supply cost $20, $5 for slim line CD, and $40 for new Intel SSD 40G HD. Used the COA and OEM version of XP to put the OS on. The only stick of RAM was just flaky enough to prevent XP from installing, but $16 replaced the memory. I selected this version for use as a very low power home server, in conjunction with a 2T USB eternal drive. Did not expect to run into the various problems, but I guess that is what you get when you gamble on used parts.

Re: Help with a downgrade plz

Well now, here's the good news and the not so good news. Followed all the instructions and...it worked!!! I was so pleased to see it up and running. I got all the drivers updated, downloaded all critical updates and then shut it down. Today I booted it to install virus software but during boot there was a small puff of white smoke from hd and then a black screen that reads 'No bootable device insert boot disc and press any key' error. I checked bios and it is not recognizing the hd at all. So does this mean the hd is shot? Thanks so much!

Re: Help with a downgrade plz

Hi:

Sounds like the hard drive is literally smoked!

You will need to get another one, and try again.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. :smileysad: I told him to get another then we start over again. After I get XP and downloads loaded on new hd is there a way to download sata drivers to convert back to raid?

Re: Help with a downgrade plz

Hi:

What PC are we talking about here?

The dc7800 or the P6107c?

Why not install the SATA drivers at the F6 prompt using a USB FDD if your PC does not have an onboard FDD.

I need to know what PC we are dealing with first though before I can answer.
