How do you get rid of the pop up that advertises HP's "smart adapter?"

About every five seconds, a pop up appears on the bottom right side of the screen advertising HP's "smart adapter." Sometimes several pop up at the same time, or pop up and stack if I ignore them. Clicking on them doesn't make them stop, and x-ing out of them doesn't work.

I have, unfortunately, an HP G60, if that makes all that much of a difference.

It is driving me up a wall. So much so that I'm tempted to just run out and buy another laptop instead of eating for the next month.

Re: How do you get rid of the pop up that advertises HP's "smart adapter?"

Hello icepixie,

There are a few solutions that people have found for getting rid of the smart adapter. I'll try to outline them all, although I may not outline every possible solution

Solution 1: Check your connection

Unplug from the computer, unplug from the oulet. Plug back into outlet, then back into computer

Solution 2: Disabling updates

You can go HPSA and see whether you hav any automatic updates in HPSA. Disable automatic updates to see if the popups stop coming in.

Solution 3: Removing the files that are responsible for the smart adapter

in Windows Explorer go to the following:

1- C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch

2- Delete file HP CnbToaster.dll

3- Delete file HPUSRMSG.exe

4- Delete file HP Smart Adapter Help

Solution 3 is a use at your own risk type of solution, when you start deleting files from the computer there could be other adverse effects. If you have issues after deleting the files the issues may be related to the fact those files have been removed.
