Re: Hp Pavilion m9517c PC question.

Hi bizzy901,

Search 'm9517c' from the home page of these forums and you won't find too many issues with this system.  I've had mine almost a month.  Very little for me to complain about.

The monitor is out-of-this-world crazy wonderful. Small problem with the 'ambient light' feature on the monitor.  That's where the screen brightness auto-adjusts to the brightness of the room it is in.  You can set that feature to be off or auto.  For some reason when the monitor wakes up from sleep mode sometimes that feature turns itself off.  Kind of annoying but not a deal breaker or anything.  Just press a few buttons on the front of the monitor to set it back to auto.  That ambient light feature rocks!  I didn't know how I'd like it until it started turning itself off!

That 2.2ghz is not the fasted quad core out there and I was concerned that the vid card wouldn't have enough oomph for some of the programs I run.  But this system processes the hi-def vids that I edit, WHILE running iTunes, Office 2007, PhotoShop, internet, AND webcamming :smileyhappy: and I think it could do more but that's enough for me.  Oh, I have found the Cyberlink YouCam software that runs the webcam is kind of flaky.  I haven't looked into it too much.  As I said, I haven't had the system all that long.

I noticed that there is a BIOS update available that, among other things, adjust the 'thermal policy' or something.  That made me pause for a moment.  But my machine has not been running hot that I know of so I don't know what that's all about.  And if it ain't broke don't fix it, I am slowly learning.

Just some of my observations.  It's been rock-solid for me so far.  I'm not a gamer so I don't know if that vid card is enough for that kind of thing.  You buying from SamsClub?  They have a 6 month no hassle return policy on their computers (well, only 30 days for the Dells).

Good Luck!

Re: Hp Pavilion m9517c PC question.

Have HP Pavillion m9517c PC factory loaded with Vista X64 OS and have had nothing but problems trying to get other programs to run on itDon't even mention programs that are no longer supported by companies that don't exist anymoreNew programs, or upgraded programs that supposed to be compatible with Vista 64Bit have bugsThe compatible tab for installing XP, WIN2K etc programs doesn't appear to do anything.

Tried to set up a dual boot with XP but m9517c will not load/install XPGet the blue screen of death instead.

Also other things that irritate me with the Vista X64It hangs up alotDoing simple tasks take a long timeThey changed the folder name sorting so it is a hassle and a half locating filesUsed to be 0 before 1. files starting with 2 next etcNow it seems to depend on the number of digitssorta

Just seems that when they finally get most of the bugs out of an OS they come out with a new OS and you have to start all over again.

Since I purchased this unit from Sams I'm ready to try out the no hassle return policy
