Because of a virus or malware problem which prevents downloading, I want to reformat my HD. My Pavilion came with Vista and I upgraded it some time ago to Win7. The problem is I can't find the upgrade disk. Can I use a "regular" Win7 disk to reinstall Windows? Let me clarify. HP's directions for making a clean install of Win7 on upgraded PCs is to reinstall Vista, then the upgrade version of Win7. Is there anything in your software to prevent installing Win7 from a normal Microsoft Win7 DVD?

are you talking about installing a NON HP upgrade"win7", if you are then yes it will work. If you are talking about a win7 full version nonupgrade then yes it will work. if you use the upgrade then you will need to install original vista o/s first

In response to the question"Can I use a "regular" Win7 disk to reinstall Windows? " The answer I believe is yes but make sure the key for the Windows 7 install is available. If you have lost the key, then no. As long as the key is accepted, then it should complete. However, it might be easier to fix the infection. If you would like help with that, then please adivse.
