Internet connection keeps dropping

I have an HP-Compaq 8200 running Windows 7 64 bit. Approx once a day the internet connection drops - there has been no problem with my internet service or connection as I run another machine that has had a continuous connection.

The error message I receives says that the Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP address.

Via the control panel I can fix the problem temporarily and I receive a message saying that the connection was reset.

How can I fix this permanently so that it does not drop every day and thus does not need a temporary fix every day?

Any help much appreciated.

Re: Internet connection keeps dropping

Hi:

See if updating the network driver from Intel works.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18713&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%...

2nd download is the 64 bit driver.

Re: Internet connection keeps dropping

Thanks very much.

I've installed the drivers. Time will tell if it works. If I have no more drops I'll post next week to confirm that the fix worked.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Re: Internet connection keeps dropping

You're very welcome.

I have my 8200 Elite hooked up to my network wirelessly, so I can't see if my onboard NIC has the same issue as yours.

Wirelessly, it is flawless.

Hopefully the Intel driver update will work.

You have a great weekend as well.

Regards,

Paul
