My system crashed and won't boot into 'Safe Mode". "Smart Tests" read element failed [ Edited ]

HP Pavilion 5730f  (BV528AA), won't start in any manner. Can get into "Safe Mode", but, driver load freezes at: "atipcie64". Refurbished machine purchased at Walmart in November 2011.

Have run "Smart tests:

1) Smart Status Check-ok.

2) Smart short test value-7 (Completed with the read element of the test failed)._

3) Smart extended self-test-(same as #2 above).

Per the test results your hard drive would need to be replaced. You can contact hp support for your options on replacing the drive.
