No Internet Options

For some reason my Internet Options is missing from my control panel.  I have also tried to run inetcpl.cpl from the "run" command box, and I might get a really quick "flash" like a window was trying to open, but usually I get nothing.

I have run several virus checks, and reg cleaners, but still can't get the internet options to open up.

Any suggestions?

Re: No Internet Options

You might want to try to do a system restore to a point before the trouble seemed to occur.

Let us know if this works.

It sounds like either file corruption or you've been infected by some malware thay may have policies in place that disallow use of that feature.  You can use Startuplist 2.02 to check the policies in effect.

Re: No Internet Options

I tried that but all of the return points that were a few weeks old wouldn't restore.  I did get one to work that was about a week old, but that didn't fix the problem.

However, before, when I opened the control panel, I only had the icon for the internet with no text under it.  After, I now have the icon as well as the text.

When I click on the icon, my hour glass starts to run, and then I get a flash of a box trying to open, but it is too quick to see. It seems to be about 3" wide x 2" tall  I tried a screen capture program that will do video, and even set it to 200 frames/second, but it would not capture the box that was trying to open.

Windows XP came installed on my computer, but I got no disks. I did make the recovery disks right after I bought it, but when I try and run the "windows repair" function (whatever it is called) it keeps asking for my "something 3 upgrade disks" and I have not been able to find how to get those or make them so I have never actually completed the "fixing process" for windows.

I think I will go through that process again, partly so I can actually tell you what I am talking  about in the last paragraph, and also to see if during the process, even though it won't complete, it might "fix" the file(s) that may be the problem.  I will report back if anything happens.
