Norton activation ad

I am still setting up my new Pavilion with Vista/64 and the "Activate Now" advertisement from Norton Utilities keeps coming up when I boot up. I built the computer with NO virus protection, and thought I had deleted the Norton Internet Security programs (they are still in the Recycle bin) but the ad keeps coming up.

How do I remove it permanently?

TIA, Marilyn

Re: Norton activation ad

You can't delete it, you have to uninstall it via the control panel.

Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Uninstall a Program

Go down to Norton Internet Security/etc and right-click then choose uninstall.

Re: Norton activation ad

FYI

To actually cmpletely uninstall a Norton product you must use Symantec's own removal tool found here. Simply uninstalling from the control panel will not get rid of it. It will still be in your registry using the uninstall program method.

Re: Norton activation ad

That tool is designed to remove anything left-over or corrupted installation and is not required to uninstall the application...for most people, simply uninstalling it will do.
