Hi,
I have a curious problem with my Pavillon (Vista 64 bit): it just won't go/stay in stand-by mode.
Every time I go via the start panel to put it in stand by mode it seems to go through the process of standing-by only to "re-awake" the very next second by heavily operating it's ventilators and checking the dvd drive (no matter if there is a dvd/cd-rom in it or not).
Same happens whenever I'm away from the PC long enough for it to automatically go to stand-by mode. It tries to stand-by over and over after a certain period of time without ever staying in stand-by.
I had the problem since I bought the PC a couple of months ago - but having already had to return the first one I bought right away I did not want to go through the hazzle and take the second one back - again.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

from what i read on the earlier post
go to mouse properties and in there some where
click or unclick to wake the computer from thid device
and i would go to the control panel and look for plug icon
and set the power management to what you desire
and there is if it is on your keyboard sleep button
good points or advice..

Sorry about the late reply.
The issue you have mentioned generally caused if the Network adapter is set to wake the PC from sleep mode. if you are usign an always on Internet conenction then there will be constant activity in network adapter and it will wake the PC as soon as you put it into sleep mode.
Please check the following and verify that the settings are correct.
- Press Windows logo and R key to open the run command box.
- Type devmgmt.msc and click on OK.
- It will open device manager.
- Click on + sign near Network adapter and Right click on the name of the adapter listed.
- Select properties and click on Power management tab.
- If the option " Allow this device to wake the PC" is checked, Uncheck that and click on Ok.
Try to put the PC in sleep/standby and verify if it stays in sleep mode.
Let me know if the steps worked. Give Kudos if it works.

I was not the person posting this problem but I was looking in the forum for the solution as I was having the same problem. This solved my problem on getting the computer to go to sleep.
Thankyou
John

The problem is from the lan. Usually happens when the ethernet cable is hooked up to the router and receives responses, like a ping. This wakes up the PC. To fix the issue:
1. Click Start | Control Panel | System
2. Click Device Manager
3. Expand Network Adapters
4. Find the device to your onboard lan, usually says Ethernet and double click for properties.
5. Click Power Management
6. Make sure "Allow this device to wake the computer" is unchecked.
7. OK.
Repeat this for the wireless adapter too. This also can wake up the system in standby.
