Pavilion a6212n PCI Simple Communications Controller & Flash Drives

I recently cleaned off a friends PC that was full of rootkits and malware. It was a Pavilion a6212n with Vista SP2 installed. The computer is looking for drivers for a PCI Simple Communications Controller. I think this driver may be related to the flash drives. The computer recognizes the flash drives as removable disks, instead of compact flash, smart media, etc.

I've been to the HP website and tried downloading the drivers from there but they aren't correct. Either they install over already installed drivers or they tell me that the computer is incompatible with these drivers (this happened with the modems).

I tried using SIW and Astra32 to get some information about the drivers but they just come up as unknown devices. Here's the information:

Property Value
Vendor 0001h
Device C022h
Subsystem Vendor 14B1h
Subsystem Device 200Ch
Command 0000h  Bus Access Disabled!!
Status 0000h  Fast Timing
Revision 00h
Header Type 00h
Bus Latency Timer 00h
Self test 00h  Self test not supported
PCI Class 07h  Simple Communication
PCI Class Type 78000h  Other

I've tried googling some of the information above and couldn't find anything. I'm at the end of my rope at this point. I've disabled it for now because I can't find it anywhere. Have you guys seen something familiar?

Re: Pavilion a6212n PCI Simple Communications Controller & Flash Drives

PCI Simple Communications Controller is the dialup modem. I'm not sure how you "cleaned off" the hdd, but if you used  HP Recovery Manager to format and reinstall Vista using the recovery partition, you should be able to reinstall any missing drivers/apps using the Start menu shortcut to Recovery Manager:

If you didn't use HP Recovery Manager to 'clean off' the hdd, take a few minutes to get familiar with it:

Re: Pavilion a6212n PCI Simple Communications Controller & Flash Drives

I ran some malware utilities (Combofix, Malwarebytes, Hijackthis, etc) to remove malware and root kits from the drive. I didn't reformat since the malware removal was quicker that the complete reinstall. The PC is 99.9% malware free. I tried installing the modem drivers from the HP website with no luck. I'm not sure what driver version is compatible with the system. I'll just chalk it up as a loss. I don't want to wipe everything on the computer on a 50% chance of resolving a piece of hardware that I'm sure they don't even use.

Did you try the 'Hardware Driver Reinstallation' using Recovery Manager in the Start menu? It will reinstall the original modem driver.
