RUN AS BOX pops up on startup

Below is what I did to resolve the RUN AS box popping up on start up but the issue was actually resolved and posted in the resolution of a separate issue; see "Fix for Error message - Sonic Digital Media Delux v7 -Lightscribe."
 

I want to thank HardBeatZ for all the help on both issues - KUDOS HBZ. Now, concerning the Run As box popping up on startup issue, I have a 2006 HP m7674n, running Windows XP. A few days ago I started getting the Run As box popping up when I started my computer. I tried the Doug Knox fix and that didn't work for me. Then I tried the Microsoft site link that HBZ provided which describes how to disable Run AS. Unfortunately that didn't work either. But in the process I discovered that it was one particular file that was causing the Run As box to pop up. It was a firmware update EXE file that was located in two of my STARTUP folders with a shortcut icon in the lower righthand corner desktop bar. The clue was that the fireware icon would only show up in the desktop bar after I clicked OK on the Run As box.

 

My solution:  I opened Explorer and moved the firmaware folders and files out of the STARTUP folders. I rebooted and the Run As box no longer pops up. The only thing I don't know is why the Run AS box started poping up in the first place because I've had that firmware on my computer for some time now. The only thing I can think of is that possibly a Windows update caused Run AS to trigger for that program. Some insight from anyone on this issue would be appreciated. Thanks. dt2012

Hello dt2012,

 

Glad to hear you got everything worked out. I saw your posts in your other threads, but it slipped out of my mind and got lost in a sea of posts and threads.

 

It may have very well been something we had done recently that triggered the run as box to initiate on those files, but at least there was a solution.
